ABOUT · Biography
Hanurij Lee works with a small set of materials, often rich and colourful in themselves, repeated without development. As the same gestures keep returning, the music arrives at a point where it cannot say anything at all. The sense of futility in the work is a consequence of this process. What the music aims for is a kind of listening in which the same material is heard differently depending on what comes before and after it.
Born in Seoul in 2006, Lee has had music presented at the Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik, the Verbier Festival, the Daegu International Contemporary Music Festival and Initiative Neue Musik OWL. In 2025 Lee co-founded the 6[;yL? collective.

GUESTBOOK
Draw an 11-TET harmonic series
Draw how many partials sound over time: the horizontal axis is time, the vertical axis is the number of partials. Each partial of the harmonic series is moved to the nearest step of 11-tone equal temperament. Press play to hear it, then sign and leave it here.
n-th partial → nearest step k = round(11·log₂ n) of 11-TET, frequency f₀·2^(k/11). f₀ = 110 Hz, 8 seconds, 64 steps.
Drawing and playback are open to everyone. Sign in with Google to leave your entry and see the guestbook.
